How are spider veins treated by laser?
Spider veins smaller than 3-mm in diameter can be removed using a laser. Laser light energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood. The blood in the spider veins is vaporized and the vessels collapse without damage to the surrounding skin tissue. The spider veins may appear darker immediately after treatment, but will gradually fade over the next two to three weeks. Between two and four treatments spaced a month apart are typically needed for complete removal. New spider veins may develop over the years and laser treatments may again be performed to remove them.

How many treatments will it take?
Often only one laser vein removal treatment is sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated. When a vein goes completely away with treatment, it rarely returns. Sometimes the body will reopen a vessel before it is completely reabsorbed, and sometimes vessels only partially respond.
